From my morning’s reading

News - Narnia Dawn_Treader Michael_Apted

“Most of us know what we should expect to find in a dragon’s lair but, as I said before, Eustace had read only the wrong books. They had a lot to say about exports and imports and governments and drains, but they were weak on dragons.”

- C.S. Lewis (The Voyage of the Dawn Treader)

Note: Read the right books – the ones that teach you about the important stuff.

I love the Chronicles of Narnia. I feel like Lewis put so many truths tucked into crevices and hiding behind dragons. My favorites are Horse and His Boy, The Magicians Nephew and Last battle. But there is a part in Dawn Treader when they are on the island with the invisible creatures, Lucy has to read out of the spell book to make ‘all things invisible viable, and when she does Aslan appears. She is shocked but he says ‘child, did you really think I wouldn’t follow my own rules’. Love it. Ok, I am going to stop before I start spouting all my favorite parts. Anyway. I want to be a writing like him when I grow up… all I am saying :-) . Thanks for sharing the quote.

I agree. I’ve been a Narnia fan since I was very little. I also love the part when Aslan comes to Lucy when she is reading from the Magician’s book. She can’t remember the wonderful story she read in the book, and she can’t turn back to read it again. She asks Aslan if she will be able to read it again or if he will tell it to her.

He responds, “Indeed, yes, I will tell it to you for years and years.”

… For some reason that part makes me cry. Love it. I want to be a writer like C.S. Lewis when I grow up too.
